Robotic technology is being used extensively for a wide variety of applications in the home setting. The Neato Botvac 85 robot vacuum cleaner is the latest entry into Neato’s BotVac line. The new and improved robotic vacuum cleaner from Neato certainly packs a punch. I’m reviewing this product for:
- helping you to gain an in-depth understanding of its features and various applications.
- showing you which are its key points
- unraveling where you can find a good price
First, check out how it looks like:
Features and Specifications
One of the main things I like about this device: it has a very low operating noise, especially when used on hard wooden or tiled surfaces.
The unit is shipped with two additional filters, a magnetic boundary, an additional blade-type brush apart from the standard bristle and blade brush already mounted on the unit. The Neato Botvac 85 comes with a combo brush that has been designed specifically for picking up long hair or pet hair.
The device utilizes a highly sophisticated laser-based technology to scan and map the room. Once the scan is completed and the room is mapped, the Neato Botvac 85 prepares an optimal plan and initiates the cleaning process, moving from one room to the other in a systematic fashion. The unit also comes bundled with a brush that is almost double the size of the brush that came with the previous unit, a larger dirt bin, and extra-large filter. The precise edge cleaning brush is designed to pick up significantly higher volumes of dirt and debris.
Neato Botvac 85 allows the user to set up a daily cleaning schedule in advance. Of course, apart from that, you have the standard button to carry out instant cleaning for multiple rooms or spot cleaning. Once the cleaning route has been completed, the unit goes by default to the charging station and goes into charge mode. The unit returns to the charging station when the battery life reaches 50 percent.
Positive Response from Users
Quite a lot of users have expressed their satisfaction with using the Neato Botvac 85. For instance, Ben Taborn who had acquired one of the vacuum robots over a year ago states that the bot still runs like a dream. So far, no glitches have been reported. Ben states that the machine was worth every dollar spent on it.
Several users have stated that the pet hair package is much more superior when compared to the previous silicone blade brush. One user stated that she was impressed by the way the Botvac handled the load, especially in a house with plenty of long haired people and a couple of cats.
In the earlier models, the cogged belt was disturbingly difficult to put back in place when replacing the brush. In the current model, Users were pleased and relieved with the fact that the brush easily slides into the socket. Most users found absolutely no problems with navigation.
Downsides of the Neato Botvac 85
By and large, most users of the latest Neato Botvac 85 model had basically no complaints to talk about. There were just minor flaws mentioned such as the LCD screen being too small to read; however, the same user admitted that there was actually almost never any need to actually use this monitor.
There have also been reports of some users who had complained about rug fringe getting stuck in their units; however, pretty much the same thing happens with standard vacuum cleaners. There have also been issues reported with battery life; however, this would depend on load that the unit is subjected to.
Overall, the Neato Botvac 85 has so far been reported to be doing a pretty mean job considering the fact that you really can’t expect a vacuum bot to perform in the same way as a standard vacuum cleaner. The unit works great in most conditions without any errors and so far users who have been using the unit for more than 6 months have been happy with the performance.
Users have reported the Botvac taking on loads of tumbleweed and mountains of hair without as much as a squeak. Minor issues such as poor battery life expectancy have been encountered in some cases, but the issue would simply be resolved by replacing the battery.
So, if you are looking for a low maintenance, high-tech solution for your vacuuming needs, the Neato Botvac 85 would pretty much fit your bill perfectly.
